GM's Decision Not to Discontinue Production of the Hummer is a Good Thing

Whether you love it or hate it, if you're honest you'll admit that the Hummer has become an American icon. While its true the Hummer series (H1, H2, H3 and H6) are vehicles some people love to hate, the bottom line is GM's behemoth line of SUVs and SUTs has more admirers than detractors. I, for one, am happy that GM has decided--at least for now--not to cease production of Hummer vehicles. What do I like about the Hummer? Well, there is certainly truth to the slogan "like nothing else." The Hummer is both large, luxurious and fun to drive. It has impressive on-road and off-road capabilities. It also makes drivers and passengers feel safe and insulated from many of the dangers riders in lower riding, less massive vehicles experience. I could easily envision someone motioning to the driver of a Hummer and telling them "Excuse me ma'am, but someone just hit your car." Having felt no impact from the collision that occurred while she was driving the car, the driver would reply "Really. Thanks for telling me." Hummer could very well change its slogan to "Insulate yourself from the ordinary." or "Rise above the ordinary."

I hope GM's designers and engineers will focus on making the Hummer more fuel efficient rather than jettisoning it.

Fiber One Yogurt is Great...Except

Fiber One cereals and snack bars are staples of my kitchen cupboards. I just had to try Fiber One Yogurt when it hit the market. The stuff is absolutely delicious, carries a mere 80 calories and packs a healthful helping (5 grams) of fiber in each serving. I would happily stock my refrigerator shelves with it if it did not contain Aspartame. Many others with food allergies, chemical sensitivies or aversions to artificial ingredients feel the same way. General Mills would do itself and consumers a real favor by reformulating Fiber One Yogurt sans the Aspartame.

Mott's for Tots A Step in the Right Direction

Mott's was already batting a thousand with is Natural Apple Sauce. As a parent, I love products that avoid both added sugar and artificial sweeteners. With its Mott's for Tots line of juices, the company that bills itself as "the leading producer of apple sauces and fruit juices for kids and adults" has hit another home run. Mott's for Tots is essentially fruit juice diluted with water. It has 40% less sugar than undiluted juice and has no artificial sweeteners. Although you could easily water down your own juice or simply consume half of a regular serving of juice to achieve the same effect, the concept is definitely a step in the right direction.

As a whole, we Americans have developed palates that are heavily dependent on sugar. It is a good thing when food processors find ways to reduce the amount of sugar in their products without adding artificial sweeteners. I am hopeful that other companies will get a clue and simply start making products that are less sweet.

Almond Delight was Just Delightful

Almond Delight was one of my all time favorite cereals. I was hugely disappointed when General Mills discontinued production of the crunchy, sweet and delicious concoction after purchasing it from Ralston Purina. Kendall Powell, if you're looking to revive a brand that was beloved by the nut-loving public, considering putting Almond Delight back into production.

Take the Hint (Hint Water, that is)

Hint water is the most delicious flavored water I've ever tasted. Hint is flavored with essences of fruits and vegetables. The best thing about it is it has no sugar and no artificial sweeteners.
